4 Things Every Parent Should Know Before Choosing a Dance Studio

If most dance studios seem to have fun and friendly teachers, experience teaching children and a big show at the end of the year, aren't they all pretty much the same? No, they are not. There are four main things that can make a huge difference in the quality of your experience at dance class.

1. WHAT KIND OF DANCE FLOOR IS USED?
Dance is a very physical activity that requires a lot of jumping, which can put stress on bones and joints. Most dance footwear does not provide any cushioning or support, so the shock of dance movement can place a lot of pressure on the knees and back of a dancer. The best way to guard against potential injury is by choosing a studio with a professional "floating floor". A Floating Floor is a dance floor that rests on a system of high density foam, to absorb the shock of jumping. A high-density foam base is superior to a "sprung" floor, which usually consists of a wood structure built on a regular floor.

Our studio has floating floors over high density foam blocks and a Marley surface top that is thoroughly cleaned and disinfected frequently during the week. Our special floors reduce the risk of injuries and allow students to dance longer without getting tired.

2. WHO ARE THE INSTRUCTORS?
Realdance prides itself on housing one of the finest faculties in any dance studio in South Florida. Our faculty are all ADULT instructors certified by either Dance Masters of America, Dance Educators of America, or the Royal Academy of Dance. What this means is our teachers have had to sit for both written and oral exams in TEACHING dance. Many people call themselves dance teachers, yet they have no formal training in HOW to teach. They might have danced as students all their lives but they are not necessarily educated in WHAT to teach (if movement is not age appropriate a child can become ijnured!) or HOW to teach it. Proper dance technique, if not instilled from the beginning cannot generally be "unlearned" once a child receives poor training.

You can read the resumes of the Realdance faculty here on our website. They are highly skilled and expertly trained professionals in their fields. Our teachers have proven track records, having trained countless dancers who are now performing in professional venues or even teaching themselves. You will see in our high quality and very entertaining recital in May just how talented our instructors are!

3. IS THE LOCATION CONVENIENT?
We are located at 1827 NE 25 Street, just east of Federal Highway, three blocks North of Copans Road. We are across 25th street from the Beacon Light Shopping Center, where you can find Publix, Menchie's, Offerdahl's and Body & Soul Boutique, among other shops. Across Federal Highway from us is Whole Foods Market and Muvico. Just a few blocks south, on the corner of Copans and Federal is the Pompano Citi Centre where you can find a variety of stores and restaurants, including Macy's, Ross, Big Lots, Chili's, Panera Bread, and Lowe's. Busy parents can drop their children off for an hour or 90 minutes and use that time to run errands, grocery shop, grab bite to eat or just relax. Gas and transportation prices are rising and show now sign of slowing down. All your children's activities should be in places that are conveniently and centrally located so you can make the most of your time!

4. CAN I GET IMMEDIATE ASSISTANCE AND CUSTOMER SERVICE?
We are always available to answer any questions you might have. If you need immediate assistance you can e-mail us at realdancestudio@aol.com and you will almost always receive an answer by the end of that day. We have a communication system for each child as well - a rolling rack of file folders in our office where all notices and newsletters are distributed in each child's folder. You will always be kept informed as to what is going on in our studio as communication between our staff and the parents is paramount!
